I’m Latifah, and I’ve spent 18 years working in education as an English & Sociology teacher, private tutor, school governor and consultant. I’ve helped many families navigate the independent school admissions process, and I find this work genuinely rewarding.
However, my connection to this world goes deeper than my career. I’m a product of the independent school sector myself, so I know this environment from the inside. Now, as a mum, I have two children in independent schools. I’m not just advising from the sidelines, I’ve been through this process myself and because of that, I understand the decisions you’re facing because I’ve faced them too.
I started Grey Parrot Education because I kept meeting parents who felt overwhelmed. They’d visited endless open days, read every prospectus, joined every forum and still felt lost. The problem isn’t a lack of information, in fact, it’s too much of it and not enough clarity about what actually matters for their child.
That’s where I come in.
I help families cut through the noise and find schools that genuinely fit. Not the most impressive name or the longest waiting list, instead, the right environment for your child to thrive. I know how these schools actually work, which ones deliver on their promises and which ones are better at marketing than teaching.
What I bring
I’ve worked with children across the 2-13 age range, guiding families through entry at 4+, 7+, 11+ and 13+. I’ve supported families from first conversation to final decision, from choosing where to apply, preparing for assessments and weighing up.
My approach is simple: I listen, I ask the right questions and I give you honest advice. I won’t tell you what you want to hear, I’ll tell you what you need to know.
Why I do this
Choosing a school is one of the most emotional decisions you’ll make as a parent. You want to get it right and that pressure can feel overwhelming.
I’ve seen what happens when parents get swept up in the noise. The WhatsApp groups. The school gate chatter. The lists of best schools that everyone’s talking about. As a result, there’s pressure to follow what other families are doing, even when it doesn’t feel right for your child.
My job is to help you step back from all of that. Instead, I help you focus on your child, their strengths, their needs, their personality and find a school where they’ll genuinely thrive. Not where everyone else is applying. Not where the current school is pushing you. The right place for them.
Sometimes, that means having harder conversations. For example, I’ve worked with families where a standard assessment revealed something that needed further exploration and I’ve helped them access educational psychologists and specialist support to get the full picture. I’ve also guided parents towards schools they’d never have considered, because it turned out to be exactly what their child needed.
